it's not the heat, it's the humility

Benefit Class, October 22, 4:00 pm

Our benefit class this month is dedicated to the Welles Crowther Charitable Trust. This organization came to our attention by BYD regular Meaghan Dalton. The description below is from her.

“I graduated from Boston College in 1999 with Welles Crowther. Welles was a lacrosse player and always wore a Red Bandanna during games. It was a gift from his father and he carried it with him everywhere. On September 11, 2001, when the second plane hit the South Tower, Welles was lost. His parents did not know what happened until 6 months later when a woman named Judy Wein who had been caught on the 78th floor relayed how a mysterious man wearing a red bandanna saved her life and that of no less that 12 other people. When Wein was sent a picture by Welles’s mom, she identified him as the brave man who led others to safety, and climbed back up the tower to look for more survivors just before the building collapsed. The Welles Crowther charitable trust was set up in his honor.

Welles was a beautiful person, a wonderful friend and a selfless individual who laid down his life so that he could save others. To this day, I carry a red bandana with me each and every day so that I can remember him. I request that, if possible, everyone wear a red bandana to class that day.”

On the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, ESPN ran a tribute to Welles.
