Towel Shortage

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

Our studio is having problems with our washing machine (as in it apparently stopped working sometime in the last 48 hours) and we have run out of clean towels. Please bring your own towels to class until further notice.

update - OK, you may rent our towels even though the w/d hasn’t been fixed or replaced. I raised the price of a towel rental from $2 to $3 to help cover the added costs of repair/replacement but also to help discourage use of our towels while I’m having to schlep them back and forth from home. Towel rental has always been meant as a courtesy for people who didn’t know (or forgot) to bring their own. We haven’t got the facility or resources to provide towels to everyone.

Help us choose an early morning class time

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

I may regret this but I’m soliciting feedback for a possible early morning class time. Please add a comment to this announcement (see link below) and indicate which of the two following times you would attend during the week (NOT Saturday or Sunday):

6:30 am or 8:00 am

Please do not respond by email or using the contact page. In order for you opinion to be considered it must be added as a comment to this announcement.

update, 12/26/07 - 6:30 am has a strong lead with 24 votes compared to 9 votes for 8:00 am. We’re going to add the 6:30 am on Mon/Wed and are now considering an 8:00 am class for Tue/Thu but if there’s not a lot more interest it may have to be a silent class (experienced students only).

Early Warning…

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

There will be a small price increase on some of our class cards, including the optional annual membership fee beginning January 1, 2008. The pricing page shows current and new prices (scroll down).

“I am grateful…”

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

I believe that your studio has fantastic, creative, compassionate, challenging and tremendously talented instructors. They are all very different, but they each possess such strong qualities in the yoga room, that it would be a lie to say that I haven’t been significantly affected by each instructor. I can’t imagine my life without the studio and the instructors. Bikram yoga has taught me to be mindful and I will be the first to say that, at times, it is a struggle. Some classes seem more hot than others. Sometimes I have an amazing class and sometimes I don’t. Whatever the situation might be in the room or with an instructor, I am constantly reminded that this class and my experience is about ME. Whether I have that amazing class or I struggle more than usual, it’s still about me… not the heat or the instructor or the people around me. Now I know a lot of this is more easily said than done, but being mindful is an active process and we can all always improve and strive to go deeper. Part of being mindful is being able to separate yourself from what’s going on around you and become more accepting. I am grateful for your studio and all of the instructors.

Bikram is Hindi for Torture

Friday, December 7th, 2007

The 630 muscles in my body have turned to jelly, enough sweat is pouring off my skin to fill Lake Lanier, and my heart, which could earn guest work in a Poe story at this point, is about to explode.

Everyone else is chanting “Ommmmmmm” or “Namaste.” But the only mantra racing through my head is four monosyllabic words: Must… get… to… door.

The article is in The Emory Wheel but the guy must not have attended our studio which is directly across the street from Emory’s Clairmont Campus… we don’t chant and our clientele look more like your typical omnivore. The rest of it sounds about right for a first time Bikram Yoga experience but don’t worry — the first class is always the hardest.

When you read it, look carefully the illustration.
