The 8:15 am class is going to be canceled for the summer after next week. The last two 8:15 am classes will be held on Monday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 6.
I really like the idea of an early morning class but we have yet to find a time that works. We may try again in the Fall but only if enough people demand it.

My apologies to those of you who were confused by the teacher schedule over the last couple of days. I use Apple’s iCal software to create and update the calendar and it publishes to the web automatically. I’m in California this week and so I updated my laptop to display local time which is 3 hours earlier than Atlanta. It didn’t occur to me that if I opened iCal while online it would auto-update the published calendar. It must have been pretty funny to see a Mon/Wed 5:15 am class. Believe me, that will never happen.

Thank goodness yoga promotes patience and the ability to accept things as they are without judgement. Just as the repair of a faulty relay in the water fountain resulted in the subsequent failure of the compressor (short version: still no cold water), the upgrades we made on Thursday to our heating/electrical system have resulted in further failure of the same. The good news is that the heat is working and the last few classes I taught were plenty hot. The bad news is that we still have some more work to do in order to optimize control and consistency. We also have a very loud buzz emanating from the closet in the women’s dressing room which I have been assured is nothing to worry about. The better news is that the next stage of repairs should not interrupt any classes.
update 05/24 - The electricians have finished their part and now the only thing left is for me to replace three switches with thermostats and adjust the timers. All fifteen of the heat panels are working and the loud buzz from the closet is gone. I’ll finish up this weekend and we’ll have the ideal system in perfect working order.

We have to do some upgrades to our heating and electrical systems on Thursday, May 10 that will require us to cancel all classes. If you are attending classes under any of our unlimited plans (Intro, Monthly, etc.) we will extend your class card by one day to make up for the lost day. Unfortunately, our software doesn’t have the the ability to make global changes so you will need to ask us to extend your deadline when you sign in. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Due to popular demand we are implementing a Springtime Bikram Yoga Challenge. Can you make a short, intense commitment to supercharge your body, mind and life? The benefits of Bikram Yoga accumulate exponentially — the more regularly you practice, the more profound the benefits will be. Don’t believe it? Prove it to yourself by accepting the challenge and we’ll reward you with a bonus prize. Here’s how it works…
Attend 30 classes in 35 days and receive a free 5 Class Card.
Attend 30 classes in 30 days and receive a free 1 Month Unlimited Class Card.
Start any time before May 31. From that day on come every day for 30 days or 6 days a week for 5 weeks. If you miss a day you can make it up by taking two classes in one day but you can only do that twice during the challenge. The benefits of a challenge come from a consistent practice more than how many classes you take.
If you already have a class card you can get started right away. If not, you can buy a special 35 day pass for the same price as our regular 1 Month (30 day) card on the first day of your challenge.
Sign up at the front desk any time between now and May 31.

We finally got the water fountain repaired but then it broke again. Seriously, we had cold water for all of 15 minutes. There was a faulty relay switch that we replaced but as soon as we got it working the compressor failed. I honestly don’t know if the new problem is related to the old one but I do know that we have been somewhat unlucky with facility electrical equipment lately. I’m sure you won’t feel too bothered or inconvenienced what with being yogi’s and all.

Someone just passed on the link to a teacher training blog (Fall 2006) that I somehow missed. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet (except for the last post where he attends the current training session in Hawaii as a teacher).

File this under famous athletes who do Bikram Yoga and please no cracks about my reading choices. This is Serena Williams talking…
I do a lot of yoga. I love Bikram yoga because you burn more than 600 calories in just one class. You need a lot of patience for yoga, but I love Bikram yoga because it’s in a super warm room so from the moment you walk in you’re just pouring sweat. I recommend everyone try this. It’s a great work out.
That’s all she says about Bikram Yoga but if you want to read the rest, here it is: “Serena Williams Talks To Star!”
